GROW GROUP QUESTIONS
In Him – Colossians 3:11-17 – March 14, 2021
Conversation Starter/Questions (10 minutes)
Who is your favorite person/hero who has overcome great odds (particularly in regards to discrimination of some sort)? Share why that is with the group.
Sermon Based Questions (15-20 minutes)
Read Colossians 3:11-17
From the story of William Wilberforce; What about his life “struck” you and what can you glean from his life to encourage you in your hopes of making a difference?
Read Col. 3:16-17. In these verses and in your opinion, what is the connection between letting the “peace of Christ rule” in your heart and the “Word of Christ dwell” in you richly?
Digging Deeper (20-25 minutes)
In what ways do you see discrimination sneaking into the church? Examples like: looking down on those who are republican vs democrat, blue collar vs white collar, poor vs wealthy, mask vs no mask, etc.
Read Matthew 7:12
Pastor Thad spoke about how he at times struggles with a first move of a “compassionate heart” or to start with “the Golden Rule” in mind.
When it come to the areas of cultural, spiritual, or relational reconciliation, how do you struggle with having a “compassionate heart” or living the “Golden Rule”?
What is your next step towards becoming more like Christ in this way?
In your opinion, if you have an opinion, what universally should the church do to address discrimination or the effects of discrimination. What is the next step after we lead with “compassionate hearts” and with the “Golden Rule”?
Pastor Thad communicated about the biblical command or imperative to forgive. Why is this hard? Is there someone you need to forgive or seek forgiveness from? When will you attempt to do this?
Challenge and Prayer (10-15 minutes)
After wrestling in your heart over all the answers above, what area do you need to act first in? Is it forgiveness related, is heart related in how you first think? Resolve to take action on what has been revealed to you this week and the weeks that follow. And how can we pray for this right now.
