Conversation Starter/Questions (10 minutes)

In the book of Esther, Esther had Mordecai to give her godly advice and wisdom. Who is it that gives you good advice? How important is that to you and can you give an example of a time where you received or gave good advice to a friend?

Sermon Based Questions (15-20 minutes)

Read Esther 4:9-17. Pastor Thad said that when God calls you to do something, He always calls you to risk, because risk demands for faith to be exercised. What has that looked like in your life? Is there something God is challenging you with right now? How can your group help with this?

God used both Esther and Mordecai (even Haman and the King) mightily, even though they were very different in their experiences. Have you ever struggled with your past or even your present and serving God? Why? What needs to be done to get you ‘on board’ with God?

Digging Deeper (20-25 minutes)

God’s sovereignty is clearly seen many times in the book of Esther. What was the most powerful moment of God’s sovereignty for you from the book of Esther (a few examples below)?

  • Appointment of Esther
  • Mordecai saves the king – Haman situation and the “gallows”
  • The Kings insomnia
  • Mordecai retro-rewarded – Mordecai took Haman’s place

God was not mentioned in Esther, although He is hinted at being involved very strongly. Has there been a time in your life that you thought that God was not present or actively working? In reflection, how do you now see that God was working during that time?

Challenge and Prayer (10-15 minutes)

Is there a current area of your life where you are struggling to see that God is working or that he is sovereign? How can we pray for you right now regarding that struggle?
